Amber has worked in the human resources field since 2013 in both the private and public sectors. Her previous experience includes working in recruitment for the State of Alaska in both the Department of Corrections and the Department of Administration, Division of Personnel and Labor Relations. Knowing that she wanted to serve in an administrative capacity within human services, Amber pursued a Bachelor’s degree in human services with a minor in business administration. Her strengths include recruitment, organizational culture, fostering relationships, facilitating conflict resolution and navigating grey areas. These skills allow her to relate to and serve staff with a broader understanding of the important work they do on a daily basis. She believes it is also important for an HR professional to know their organization’s mission inside out so that the HR approach can be tailored accordingly.

Amber grew up in the Midwest primarily in Illinois and Iowa and attended college in Michigan. She originally came to Juneau in order to be a camp counselor at Echo Ranch Bible Camp, then relocated to Juneau in 2012. She and her family briefly moved back to the lower 48, before returning to Juneau. Amber says that she is thrilled to be part of the Juneau community again and that Juneau is truly home. She brings with her experience navigating the foster system, working in ministry and a family history of mental illness, which give her an increased awareness of the need for self-care. She believes in integrated and whole-person care in order to achieve balance.
