Interests/Specialties: Art Therapy
Location: JAMHI Family
Megan works at JAMHI Family as an art therapist with youth and their families. She attended Saint Mary of the Woods College and graduated with a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling in May of 2021 and has been with JAMHI Family since late April of 2022. During her degree program she completed her practicum and internships in Juneau at the Yaakoose Daakahidi Highschool Teen Health Center, Juneau Youth Services residential treatment program, private practice, and the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) at JAMHI. These experiences have showed her how mental health care is approached in different environments and how living with mental health challenges impacts individuals and families throughout one’s lifespan. She is currently working on licensure as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and registered art therapist (ATR).
She is trained as an art therapist, but says that someone doesn’t need to be an “artist” to benefit from art therapy. This modality is helpful for all ages and skill levels. Art therapy allows people to talk about what they have created in-session and how it relates to their life, rather than the traditional approach of talk therapy.
Megan has lived in Juneau, Alaska for most of her life and has also resided in Indiana, Upstate New York, Georgia, and Minneapolis. She has traveled to Ireland and driven through six of Canada’s provinces. In her free time Megan enjoys making art, walking, hiking, baking, traveling and spending time with loved ones.
