Mark J. Mow

Director

Mark moved to Juneau with his family in 1967, leaving behind his roots in rural Oklahoma. The transition to Alaska’s rugged landscape was a major culture shock, but it sparked a lifelong appreciation for the natural beauty and unique lifestyle of the Last Frontier. In his early years, Mark could often be found exploring Juneau’s many hidden treasures—hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles through the largely undeveloped Mendenhall Valley.

A graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School’s Class of 1977, Mark spent much of his career working in a variety of local businesses before joining the City and Borough of Juneau. He proudly served the community for 24 years until his retirement in 2019.

Mark is married with two grown children, both of whom continue to call Juneau home. He enjoys spending his days with family and friends, making the most of Juneau’s incredible outdoor lifestyle—walking the dogs on local trails, hosting barbecues at the beach, and soaking in the simple pleasures of nature.

A passionate outdoor enthusiast, Mark has fully embraced life in Southeast Alaska. Over the years, he learned to fly and owned his own airplane, and at times had more boats than cars. Mark’s involvement with JAMHI reflects his strong belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life, regardless of the challenges they face.
