April Conway

Controller

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science, Accounting, University of Idaho

April joined the Finance Team at JAMHI in July 2024, as the controller.  This means that she works closely with the Chief Finance Officer to manage the entire finance department.

This is a role that this born and raised Juneau gal is well suited for!  After spending her college years in Moscow, Idaho she moved right back to Juneau (well, Douglas this time) and started working at a CPA firm she had interned at in the summer.  Through her work in public accounting she got experience in tax, audit and attestation services; with her primary area of expertise in non-profit, healthcare and governmental financial statements and federal and state single audits.  After nearly a decade doing that kind of work she became a control in the automotive industry at a dealership in Juneau.  There she oversaw accounting, payroll and human resources function and got to help with some really big efforts like buying/selling the business, rolling out a new point of sale system, and going paperless!

Outside of paid work, April has also served on some non-profit boards as a treasurer, social media chair and president; where she’s also flexed her analytical, organizational and communication skills.  She admits to loving nothing more than a beautiful Excel spreadsheet, and also enjoys teaching others and learning from others. All these prior roles have helped her develop her knowledge of how all parts of an organization interact to achieve their financial goals . . . and ultimately, their mission!

When she actually gets some downtime, April cooks and entertains others with game nights and bonfires.  Though she’s traveled all over the state, she always comes back to Southeast Alaska for its camping, fishing, hiking, and opportunities for rainy-day snuggles with her cats and a movie marathon.
