Betty loves nursing and she loves community health – it’s as simple as that!  Having been in nursing for 25 years, she’s worked in many areas of medicine including intensive care, emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery, and in patient safety. In 2019 while training as a Nurse Practitioner she spent time in Kauai, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the U.S. Virgin Islands (specifically St. Thomas) where she really solidified her interest in helping persons in underserved communities have access to high quality, equitable care.  Prevention of chronic disease can be challenging for persons without good access to care; so working in community health focusing on areas of lifestyle management and diabetes self-care education are ways that she makes a real difference. Raised in Wisconsin, Betty raised her family in Flagstaff, Arizona; and then more recently lived on St. Thomas in the Caribbean before moving to Juneau.  While that may seem like a big shift, Betty brings sunshine wherever she goes and get energized by the things that St. Thomas and Juneau share – rich & sustaining waters, epic boating, beautiful hiking trails, and the amazing outdoors.
