Greg Walter, FNP

Nurse Practitioner

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts, Social Work, Gordon College
  • Masters of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, Yale University

Greg loves working with people on making changes that are hard to implement, but that they’re motivated to do.  He works with a lot with people who have conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and substance use disorders; chronic conditions that can take hard work and a supportive team to manage well.

Thankfully, Greg has some great training to help him do this supportive work, having first gotten a degree in social work and working in the field.  After six years, he returned to school for nursing and graduated as a nurse practitioner.  With his nursing training he’s worked as an oncology nurse in Connecticut and then as nurse practitioner in community health centers in North Carolina and Alaska (Kodiak island and Dutch Harbor).  Bringing those social work and nursing perspectives together means that he’s really good at motivational interviewing and meeting all clients where they are.

Though Greg currently lives in Dutch Harbor and works remotely for JAMHI from there, some of his summer hobbies are the same as other Juneau-ites; spending time with family hiking and picking berries.  In winter you can find him and the family riding their kick sled all over the rolling hills.  Even though he’s so far away from Juneau, Greg loves spending time in Juneau and says “it is a privilege to get to work with the JAMHI team who are so dedicated and caring; and committed to the people we serve.”
